The Al Qaeda-linked Al shabaab fighters in Somalia have attacked Somali and African Union troops near the central town of Beledweyne city, residents said on Monday.

Residents said Al shabaab militants staged a massive attack on SNA and Ethiopian troops’ bases at Halgan area, west of Beledweyne, the regional capital of Hiiraan.

The attackers raided the bases from difference corners, sparking face-to-face gunfire between the militants and the coalition (SNA and Ethiopian army).

It was immediately unclear the casualty figures on both sides as a result of the Al shabaab attack on Halgal village, according to local villagers.
