An explosion has occurred outside a courthouse in the Turkish Aegean coastal city of Izmir, killing at least two people and wounding several others, according to Turkish state media reports.

Vehicles were burning and ambulances were seen rushing to the site of the blast, according to the photographs shown on national television networks on Thursday.

Damage reported around the area close to one of the gates of the courthouse, where the blast happened, Turkish media said.

Two attackers were killed in a gunfight with security forces, the state-run Anadolu Agency said, adding that the police was searching for the third attacker.

Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Jamjoom, reporting from Istanbul, said the latest attack shows how volatile the security situation in Turkey is.
