Mogadishu (HOL) – Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre has left Mogadishu for New York on Monday to attend the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he is expected to meet with other world leaders, according to state-owned SONNA news.
The conference is billed as being the world’s most important meeting. Leaders and dignitaries from 193 countries will converge at the United Nations headquarters located in the heart of New York City for a week of speeches and sideline talks during the annual assembly.

Kheyre is expected to address the assembly on the issues most affected the East African nation including counter-terrorism and disaster relief.

As head of state, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo was expected to attend the general assembly but has opted to sent Kheyre in his place. This marks the second time in a row where a sitting president has sent the Prime Minister to deliver Somalia’s address.
