Scottish Government to donate £200,000 towards East Africa famine appeal

The Disasters Emergency Committee East Africa Crisis Appeal has been set up to support those affected by famine in the region.

The Scottish Government is to donate £200,000 towards an appeal to help millions of people facing starvation in East Africa.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) East Africa Crisis Appeal has been set up to support those affected by famine in the region.

Severe drought on top of years of conflict has left more than 4.9million people without enough food in parts of South Sudan.

In neighbouring countries including Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, a further 16million people are in need of food, water and medical treatment.
